Butler will join A10 this fall

Posted by Josh on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, In : A10/Big East News
That makes an even 16 team for this fall.

Xavier was already scheduled to play Butler in non-conference play in the ESPN Marathon day to kick off the season so we'll have to see if that will be handled as a conference game or how that will be handled.

Butler may join VCU in A10 this fall

Posted by Josh on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, In : A10/Big East News
The Horizon League might be in a bad way come June 1st.  Rumors popping up today are suggesting that Butler is preparing to announce that they'll be leaving the Horizon League and joining the A10 immediately.

If true, both VCU and Butler will be playing basketball in the Atlantic 10 Conference this fall.  Xavier and Butler were scheduled to play in ESPN's 24-hour basketball marathon so that might be subject to change if both are now A10 schools.

With Charlotte and Temple staying in the A10 un...

Schools say USBank site for Shootout not a done deal

Posted by Josh Bobinger on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, In : Other News
Well, after it was reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer early yesterday that the next 2 years of Crosstown Shootouts will be at USBank Arena downtown, both schools have said that there is no deal in place.  An announcement will come in the next few weeks.

Maybe after hearing fans, media, writers, etc. ripping this move, the schools are reconsidering.  I sure hope so.  While I'm sure the atmosphere at USBank will be more exciting than your average game, there are so many students and players ove...

Crosstown Shootout moves to USBank Arena for next 2 years

Posted by Josh on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, In : Other News
We may never know exactly why this move has happened.  Was it entirely because the schools wanted to show the fans that they are trying to improve the atmosphere of this event?  Was it for safety reasons?  Was it for money?  It's probably some combination of those but it's a bad move regardless of the reasons.

This is a college rivalry.  It should be played on the college campuses!  Every year for 25 years in a row it has been done this way.  We know that the coaches, referees, and players wil...

Mack adds 2 assistants to coaching staff

Posted by Josh on Friday, May 18, 2012, In : Recruiting/Roster Updates
Mike Pegues of Delaware and Ashley Howard of Drexel are joining Chris Mack's staff.

They both have east coast connections, namely in Philly and DC so that will help on the recruiting trail.  The 2013 class has a solid list of guys from these two areas and Xavier has been actively recruiting a lot of them so this will only help in our campaign for those players.

Pegues is a big-man coach which is something we've needed since Pat Kelsey's departure.

Update - VCU will join this year!

Posted by Josh on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, In : A10/Big East News
The CAA Commissioner just announced that VCU is bolting and will join the A10 this summer.  So, in less than a week, VCU went from being in the Colonial to joining the A10 in a year to joining the A10 immediately.  Welcome aboard!

This makes 15 teams in the conference for this fall as Butler-in, Temple-out, and Charlotte-out don't happen until next year.  That will make the A10 scheduling a bit tougher.  Xavier would likely now only play two teams twice (instead of 3) as the conference schedul...

VCU to join Butler in A10 for 2013

Posted by Josh on Monday, May 14, 2012, In : A10/Big East News
VCU will be joining the A10 for the 2013-2014 season along with Butler.

With Temple leaving for the Big East and Charlotte now departing for the CUSA, the A10 will keep 14 teams in the conference.  It's shaping up to be a very solid group of teams in the A10.

Mark Lyons to AZ, Summer League, other notes

Posted by Josh on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, In : Recruiting/Roster Updates
Some various Muskies notes for you...

Mark Lyons has told Sean Miller and Arizona he'll be heading there this fall.  Best of luck to him.

Chris Mack has been out recruiting and likely trying to decide who's going to fill the 2 assistant coach vacancies.  We'll update as soon as we hear more.

Summer is coming and Musketeer Madness seems so far away.  It's nowhere near as exciting, but at least the summer leagues will be in June and July.  Saturday, June 16th will be the first sets of games.  It's...

2 XU assistant coaches leave program

Posted by Josh on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, In : Recruiting/Roster Updates

Sorry I didn't post this earlier.  There was a lot of speculation that these 2 were leaving, but I waited until it was official.

Rasheen Davis took a position with Manhattan.  He is from the NY area so you would think that he wanted to be closer to home.  Davis is a great recruiter and the main guy involved in landing the #5 overall 2013 player, Chris Thomas, in next year's class.  We've heard from Thomas' camp that he still intends to attend Xavier in the fall of 2013 but there's a lot of t...
